About Toorak Builders

Built from the trade up.

A Perth building company led by people who understand the work from both sides — the detail on site and the decisions that keep a whole project moving.

The story

A building company shaped by doing the work.

Toorak Builders grew from a practical construction background, not from a sales office.

James Batty founded the business after a 20-year career as a carpenter. That experience ranged from detailed residential work and older homes through to major projects including Optus Stadium and the Perth Museum.

As the business grew, Jake Vorias brought another layer of builder-level management and high-end construction experience to the team — strengthening the systems, coordination and project control behind the work.

The result is a company that tries to keep both things close: the person making the decision should understand what it means on site, and the people on site should understand the standard the whole project is working toward.

The About page should explain the people behind Toorak. The service pages explain what we build; the project pages prove it.
The people

Two builders. Different strengths.

Rather than repeating the full list of Toorak services here, this page is about the experience and roles behind the business.

James Batty

James founded Toorak Builders after two decades in carpentry and construction. His strongest instinct is practical: understand the building first, then work out the best way to alter or create it.

That trade foundation is particularly valuable on residential work where structure, details and sequencing are not always obvious from the finished drawings alone.

James remains closely connected to the direction of the business, the client experience and the standard of the work Toorak puts its name to.

Jake Vorias

Jake brings more than 15 years of high-end residential and commercial construction experience, including complex custom projects before joining Toorak Builders in Perth.

His focus is the control behind delivery — programming, trade coordination, buildability, quality and keeping a substantial project organised from one stage to the next.

That gives Toorak a useful balance: James’s trade-driven eye for the building itself, alongside Jake’s focus on managing the entire construction process.

Why the pairing works

Site thinking + project control.

01 · James

Start with the building.

How is it put together? What is worth retaining? Where are the risks? What detail will make the finished work feel right?

02 · Jake

Control the delivery.

How is it programmed? What needs to be resolved early? Which trades and consultants need to coordinate before it becomes expensive?

The company today

Small enough to stay close. Structured enough to handle serious work.

Toorak is intentionally positioned as a hands-on residential building company rather than a high-volume builder. The aim is to keep decision-making close to the people responsible for the outcome.

01

Builder involvement

Clients deal with people who understand construction, rather than having the important decisions disappear through layers of sales and administration.

02

Trade understanding

The company’s carpentry roots still matter. Details, junctions, existing structure and sequencing are treated as core building decisions, not site problems to solve later.

03

Controlled growth

The focus is on becoming better at the kind of residential projects Toorak wants to be known for, rather than simply chasing more volume.

What we want Toorak to feel like
“Professional enough to run a complex build properly. Personal enough that the people responsible are still in the room.”

That is the standard the company is being built around — experienced people, direct communication and a high level of ownership over the finished result.
